I already subscribe to "This American Life" from NPR....and I love it! I love that I don't have to be listening at the "right" time -that I can listen whenever I have a minute. I used to have an almost hour commute in which I would listen to it - it was perfect timing, but now... I have a seven minute commute - but I still get "This American Life" - I get to hear Ira whenever I want - it's awesome.

I have listened to "All Songs Considered" before from NPR - but never had thought of podcasting it...this is going to be dangerous for me. I love music and this podcast is right up my alley - I love hearing about new artists, connecting different genres together....ooh the possibilities.

How would I use them in my work? NPR alone has dozens (if not more) art related podcasts that I could have the students listen to. To many students "art" seems so far away - so ancient - these podcasts could introduce them to some modern trials and tribulations in the art world -it's wonderful!

I didn't really care for the slideshare sight. I didn't find a lot that I would use. I might come back to this one and dig a little deeper in the sight. I could use some of the videos on a blog/moodle page for a "how to" that the students could connect to and see at home (if they needed help over the weekend or something). Outside of school I am not sure how I would use it...I'm not sure it would be something that I would access very much.

I actually reviewed two...remember the milk and 30 boxes. Both were similar as far as they both can organize your life...or so they give the impression of. I didn't care so much for 30 boxes because, being visual, I didn't like how the events looked in the boxes. The words were cut off instead of starting on a new line. Not a big deal - but being a visual person - I need it to look good as well as being functional. I can see how I would/could use both though. They both will alert you to things through either email or a text message...which I can set up on my phone...so there would never be a reason to forget an event...at least in theory. I personally like to have a planner - an old school paper planner with me (I like to doodle) - now if rememeber the milk or 30 boxes let me doodle on the page - then watch out - they would be perfect tools... (not my doodle - I borrowed it from google - but it proves the point)

I have already used Google Docs to post my syllabus online. Our district has adopted that all our syllabi have to be accessilbe to parents through Parent Connect (Zangle). I couldn't figure out how to type it in, so I (with help from kdog techy) provided a link for parents to see the document. It has tremendous potential for things like that. Some of the things that came to mind while watching the video...this could create a paperless environment. As teachers we create so much paperwaste...this would be an avenue to stop it...you can provide feedback right online. It also would help with accountability. Students wouldn't lose their work - it would always be accessible. It would also be beneficial to know when students would have turned something in.
This does create a little bit of a barrier with accounts and such. I think that's why our school utilizes moodle. It has similar aspects to many of the things we are learning through this - but on a smaller more refined scale. Students already have accounts through so many things....they could easily have another.

To be totally truthful this is the first time that I have checked my bloglines since I had set it up....and yes, now I am addicted. Is this really possible? All of this information given to me - the information that I can pick...oooh boy. This is dangerous... I understand the time saving aspect of it all - it's pretty obvious. It's easy to find on websites - what websites wouldn't want you to enroll - that's a nobrainer too. Oh, this is really really great!!!

That way I could make sure they aren't going to sites that are selling jewelry - they are going to sites that actually have some information on them. I could also have students use this to go to museum sites - a virtual field trip. A class assignment where they have to tour a museum and look for information would be really cool - I could make sure of their sources that way.
This is a time saver. I used to have to remember which search engine I used and what exact terminology I used to find the pages I used since my computer at work clears everything off at the end of the day - which leaves me with a clean slate everyday (good and bad). This is very beneficial. I'm going there now to see if I can create folders where I can organize the information even more...like personal interests, school, etc.

Just like with anything there is a new language to learn. I think when the web came out - we all had to learn what .org, .com, .ca meant - this is just another language to learn. If one uses it enough - it will become second nature. The one draw back that I am apprehensive about is that we all think a little different - so what I might label conspiracy theory - someone else may tag that as politics... I'm sure once I start into it though I will be able to differentiate between stuff I want and stuff I don't want.

I don't care for how large my widget is; can I resize it somehow? I didn't realize how many things "out there" are up for the taking. Really cool things...All of this reminds me of Daniel Pink's book - about how the right brain thinkers are going to rule the world. We are in a society where all students learn the same information in high school and then in college. We are great at creating "academic robots", if you will. It will only be the people who can think on their own, creativly who will succeed in this ever increasing visual world. (I have now stepped off my soap box.)
I am on facebook and snapfish. I only joined facebook last year as a way to talk with coworkers outside of school and ended up finding so many people from my past (a good thing) that I lost contact with! It is great. It's a dangerous thing though - you become addicted to checking it. No, I don't feel though that relationships are as meaningful. I am on facebook with a few coworkers and we can chat online, but the second we are in person - it seems a little awkward. I don't think kids are taught communication skills, so these social networks are perfect for them - they don't really have to communicate deep thought - it's very surface. It's not like a letter you had to write, get an envelope and a stamp and place it in the mailbox - it's quick, thoughtless and superficial (usually).

Of course I like to leave my opinions where I go...I think many teachers feel comfortable doing that - isn't that what we do? We give kids our feedback - so this is a logical next step.
I was excited when I got my first comment - it's the acceptance thing..."ooohh someone likes me!!" We all have that - no matter how much one might think the opposite.
Commenting on someone's online thought is a great way to get a little mroe connected. The internet can be a very impersonal venue and commenting and having a conversation is a wonderful way to "reach out and touch someone".

I guess I'm fairly neutral on youtube. I like it to look up videos of funny things, but...I guess though I haven't dug deep enough for educational videos. I could see a "how to" of sorts for perspective, shading...those kind of things would be useful for the art room. It is great to look up funny things though. I love the Will Ferrell as the art model...wonderful!

There is a man who actually takes photos of "letters" and spells words and such - he's in many local stores. This is a take on his work...

I can think of a thousand ways to use Flickr in my classroom. Being an art teacher I am constantly looking for relevant images for the kids to talk about the elements and principles of design...something that they can relate to. This is a perfect avenue for this. Also - I can scan in their artwork and upload it onto Flickr to show examples of work...great tools. An issue I can think of us the sheer volume of things on there - also perhaps some inappropriate images...

I chose this image because I love Frida Kahlo. She's amazing. I have never seen this particular photo of her. I was drawn to her hair and jewelry in this photo. The contrast of all the colors - yeah, that works too. Still having fun.

Okay - this was tricky. I understand what it does and everything....but when I searched through Google Blog Search it came up with some that I could not link to....that was kinda frustrating. Can I link webstites to my bloglines page? I guess that's the issue that I can into...it seemed like the website that I wanted was a blog type thing - but I couldn't link....I don't know. I will search more. Also - I like the videos on this site that are done with the mans voice as it tends to be louder. I can barely hear the other ones.
My personal life - Ohhhh the possiblities are endless - all the conspiracy theories out there at a touch of a button...nice. My family will hate me - I guarentee it. Professionally - well think of all those young vulnerable minds that I can show conspiracy theories too....no not really. It would be great to link to artists blogs - perhaps their frustrations on creating or whatnot.

I feel that it will be a matter of time. After time I feel like I will figure out which feeds I enjoy reading and which I don't. It's the same thing with emails. I sign up and the second that I get a million in a day - I unsubscribe. I feel as though this is the same way. Just trial and error - and that's what makes it fun!

Holy smokes there is a lot to learn here! So much fun though. I like having links to each others as well. That lends itself so much to collaboration! I love this! Link lessons, projects...anything! This is great. This totally feeds into my self centeredness though....Yikes!

Okay oops...I guess I didn't read it as clearly as I should have. I should have labeled my first blog as Thing 1 and 2 ( a little Dr. Suess Monday morning is a good thing...). But for the second Thing - this is fun. I think as teachers we are all a little self centered and like to hear our own thoughts - this is a perfect avenue for that!

I am participating in 23 things because I have heard great things about it (number one). Number 2 because I am always looking at ways to improve my teaching and three because I love gadgety things and this is sooo gadgety!
I really hope to learn REAL things that I can use in my classroom. My school limits/prohibits Ipods and other electronic devices which I feel is a shame. I would love to allow students to use their ipods in class, it would make my life so much easier. Their work would be much richer.
After reading and watching Thing 1 I realized how much more that I could really do. There are many more things that I can do to make what I teach richer. I thought I was stepping it up using Moodle - wow I wasn't even scratching the surface!!!!
